Jeanie Daves’ work in clay ranges from mid-temperature functional stoneware to hand-built tiles, tile murals, and figure sculpture. A favorite technique involves painting with colored clay slips and incising to depict whimsical animal, plant, and musical themes, particularly those native to the Southern Appalachian region.
Jeanie started working in clay in 1978 at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Atlanta. She earned a B.F.A. in ceramics at Georgia State University (GSU) in 1995 and, later, completed a year of graduate work in the MFA program. Jeanie also holds a master’s degree in communications journalism (GSU, 1985) and a B.A. in Theater Arts/English (Rollins College, 1966.)
Residents of Clarkesville, Georgia, Jeanie, and her husband Walter, are active in old-time music and community volunteerism. She sells her pottery through local galleries and teaches occasional workshops for adults and children.
