I found a focus for my creative urge in 1988 when I apprenticed myself to a traditional Cherokee stone carver, who passed on to me his gift of carving. At the end of my first year with him, I had my first show at Illumina Gallery in Atlanta. In 1997, my work was featured in Lapidary Journal.

Since then, I have continued to practice traditional arts of stone carving, wood shaping, and – increasingly – furniture building. The wood is from fallen trees on Indian Ridge Farm that I saw and finish.

I let each piece of wood guide me in the process of creation. I was taught, and now eagerly affirm, that there is spirit in everything. My intention is to serve that spirit as I help it find expression in each work of art.
