Jim Norton has been a member of the Studio Group since 2003. Working in book arts as well as metals, he often combines the two mediums.
Norton has a BA from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee with an emphasis in printmaking. In 1976 he enrolled at the University of Georgia to explore Jewelry and Metalwork and later opened a business -- Homeplace Gifts & Toys.
In 1998, Norton renewed his interest in metalwork by attending the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown NC. After learning to enamel on simple, precut shapes, he decided to explore fabricating his own designs on which to enamel. This exploration led him to the completion of his MFA in Jewelry and Metalwork from the University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art in 2007.
